What? Not even 7pm?

I need headphones. BRB.

That took awhile.

Haven't really decided what to do with the space yet, but I know there will be music. Just put on my headphones and started up Snail - EP. I found the band while wandering around YouTube checking out psychedelic fuzz. I had my headphones on and had just smoked a nice relaxing joint, which always enhances music 100 times. There is no way that I can adequately describe just how amazing music and weed are together. How ultimately amplified and cerebral music is and how far deep a person can go when it is just that amazing. And so it was with my first listen to Snail. Got initially turned on with a track (Underwater) off their 2009 release Blood which pretty close to immediately had me screaming 'I love this band! I love love love this band!' Seriously, it was insane how much I was making a fuss of this band. I run back up to my room and throw myself into more Snail. I listen to all the videos off Blood then turned to Terminus and finally to their EP.

Was I ever disappointed? What happened when the stone wore off, were the tunes just as good? No, no I wasn't. Yes, yes they were. So good in fact that very night I bought Terminus and Blood and would have bought their EP if I had found it. I listen to it on the way to work, at the gym..whenever I can really.

I guess I should tell you I'm not talking about the 60's band Snail. The band I'm talking about is from Seattle, WA, and put their first EP out in 1993 when grunge was big and Kyuss was a well known cult band. I confess I had never heard of them, despite being a huge music freak and priding myself on underground band knowledge. But I was getting music highs from Monster Magnet, Soundgarden and MotherLoveBone. Still not sure how it was that I hadn't heard of them then because seriously these guys are freaking fantastic! Blood, which I confess is my favourite album, came out in 2009 (and where the hell was I?) and is definitely my favourite album of theirs. I love the way the music just flows and leaves it so you have to pound your fist, bang your head and just revel in the glory that is Blood. Plus this being a Meterocity debut is an added bonus (props to Meterocity).

I guess a bit of history is needed here. The band split after making their first two EPs (ha, another album I must have!) and reformed years later. Most of the tracks off of Blood, 2009, are the never forgotten tracks the band wished they had of released back then. Whatever the process and whatever the why of it, this album is sheer freaking brilliance! The songs are spacey and fuzzy and psychedelic and change up in all the right places. Not one boring dull moment to be had. Have a listen here to Underwater and see what I mean:

Watch me

I'm heavily in love with the vocals. The singer moves easily between soft vocals (clear, smooth, sexy) and harsher vocals as heard on the first EPs as well as Terminus, their latest release. Either way, it matters naught to me. I do have a bias towards Blood, but equally enjoy Terminus for different reasons. Snail is a band not afraid to mix shit up by laying down a melodic stoner-psych-shoegaze track like Underwater and then ripping into some brutal psychedelic doom with songs like Ritual off Terminus I'm a fan of all things Snail. I've heard the light. Each album has a definite psychedelic Pink Floyd like backbone, with often slower, groovy guitar, wicked time changes and amazing lyrics. From the gritty, often stoner punk of their first two EPs to the psychedelic fuzziness of Blood to the more metal-psyche-stoner-doom of Terminus, Snail is simply freaking brilliant!

Here is an interview with the band from the Obelisk, an amazing website:
